Services Provided:

Design of this integral bridge structure carrying Ballyfoyle Road over the N77 at Kilkenny in Ireland. The Superstructure consists of a single simply supported span of 37m in length; comprising pretensioned W14 Beams of 1.8m in depth acting compositely with a 270mm thick in-situ reinforced concrete deck slab. The bridge structure is fully integral in nature. The superstructure is equipped with approach slabs which in turn accommodate the asphaltic plug type expansion joints (Thormajoint), which are spaced at 46.5m The superstructure is supported on diameter 750mm augured reinforced concrete piles, sleeved through reinforced earth retaining walls. In order to minimise earth pressures on the integral abutment wall during translational movement against the fill due to seasonal temperature variations, the abutments are equipped with a compressible Geo-Inclusion.
