Services Provided:

As a sub-consultant to MOR Consulting Engineers, responsible for the design, analysis and detailing of the bridge over the river Nore, forming part of the Kilkenny Central Access Scheme. The purpose of the scheme is to alleviate traffic congestion in the medieval and archeologically important city. The bridge comprises 5 continuous span of 118m length in total (19,5m, 26m, 27m, 26m, 19.5m) with a skew of 30°. The bridge is semi-integral in nature i.e. fully integral with the piers and supported on elastomeric bearings at the abutments. The superstructure is of composite construction made continuous for live load, and comprises pre-tensioned Y4 and Y4E beams with an in-situ concrete roadway slab. The diaphragms are in precast concrete construction, supported on circular piers on Ø1100mm lined oscillator piles of up to 30m in length. The bridge is equipped with approach slabs at the abutments with Asphaltic Plug Type Expansion Joints (Thorma Joint). the analysis and design are in accordance with the Eurocode.
