BRIDGE ENGINEERING, CIVIL STRUCTURES

Location:
Richards Bay

Date:
1999

Services Provided:

Design of Richards Bay Berth 306 (Coal Quay) extension. Due to the success of the pre-tensioned composite superstructure of Richards Bay Dry Bulk Jetty (ref. Following page), this structure was designed with identical pre-fabricated elements. The main structural differences, however, are that Berth 306 comprises a single 21 m span, berthing forces are resisted by a system of large diameter composite raking piles, the piles themselves are friction piles as opposed to end bearing piles and Berth 306 required a service tunnel along the cope face. Design to BS 5400 and SATS Harbour Manual.
